OUR TASK
The project concerns the restoration of the original entrance to the National Archaeological Museum of Venice from Piazza San Marco, the inner courtyard designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, and the bookshop. The museum is housed on the first floor of the Procuratie Nuove palace, built in the early 17th century bordering Piazza San Marco to the south.

THE CONTEXT
The Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Venice is an archaeological museum on St Mark’s Square, which holds a notable collection of antiquities, mainly Greek and Roman sculptures. Before the works, the Archaeological Museum entrance was from the Correr Museum. Experimentally, on the occasion of the exhibition by the artist Mark Quinn, hosted in the rooms of the archaeological museum, the original access from Piazza San Marco has been reactivated.

The project
The restoration work involved the demolition of the wood entrance compass and the restoration of the vestibule and courtyard. The entrance compass demolition allowed the maximum visual permeability of the courtyard and the colonnade of the internal façade that houses the statue of Agrippa Grimani. Finally, the project involves the transformation of a warehouse on the ground floor into a bookshop and ticket office.
